Dear Faculty Colleagues,
Thank you to those of you who participated in the 2025 university-wide faculty climate survey, which was conducted this fall and offered to all faculty across ranks and tracks. The survey, repeated every two years and administered by Yale’s Office of Institutional Research in partnership with the Office of the Provost, is an important tool for assessing and improving the faculty experience.
Survey results demonstrate continued improvement across major survey themes. Though response rates vary considerably by faculty track and school, this year’s overall response rate was 34.1 percent, compared to 30 percent in 2021 and 34.3 percent in 2023.
In reviewing these results, we are heartened by—and grateful for—your level of care and engagement. The past year has introduced immense uncertainty for Yale and higher education, presenting challenges to our research and scholarship, teaching, preservation, and practice, while also affecting many of us in deeply personal ways. In the face of these challenges, you have shown resilience and drawn strength from community, mentoring each other and inspiring hope about the important work we do on this campus.
Using results from this year’s survey, deans of schools, in partnership with our offices, will continue to develop and implement strategies to improve faculty life. This work is part of our ongoing commitment to supporting the environment in which you advance your fields and educate the next generation of leaders. We thank you for your continued contributions to these efforts, particularly your dedication to one another and to our shared mission.
Warmly,
